I always loved this book, a mouse couple go on a picnic and he is washed away down the river while trying to save her scarf. We believe it has a copyright date of the mid to late 1940's. One or both of the peoples had telepathy. The little girls who attend agree that it was the best party ever. Before the story taking place in each land is a little unit on that country, and I assume the revisions in those portions reflected changes brought about by the war, and the stories and illustrations were probably just the same.

This prequel to The Lord of The Rings trilogy will forever be marked as one of the most cherished chapter books in history. All excellent training if you are set on a life of excitement and mystery – like the ones of characters from the books she reads. The others mentioned might be it as well...especially Magic Elizabeth, which is a wonderful story. I think there is a chance that I11 may be The Magus by John Fowles. I'd love to get a copy of this for my daughter.

The author of this book wrote several others about this same main character. Henriette travels to join her, meeting people, animals and having adventures along the way. With contemporary resonance and a nostalgic tone, this charming book begs to be read aloud. Another - " yellow is a mellow fellow " Another - " orange is orange orange orange " ( I think that is how it went ). G+. $6 the second is a boy goes over to an old womans house and she sends him up in the attic to explore. he finds a chest with gold coins in it. when he goes home to tell his mother of his adventures she thinks hes exaggerating. when she goes to put his umbrella away she opens it (to let it dry) and a gold coin drops out. if your familiar with either story please let me know. its been 27 years since i have read either story and i think it would be nice to revisit them. there is a similar incident in one of the Mrs.
